Seagull Guitars

U of the Blues is proud to offer Seagull Acoustic Guitars. Seagull guitars are built with the player in mind. They are one of the best option for the beginner and advanced players will appreciate the great attention to all of the details the make a guitar look, play, and sound its best. Here are the some of the models we carry.

The S Series

The guitars that make up the Seagull S series represent one of the world's outstanding values in acoustic guitars. The back and sides of the S series models are made from a three-layer lamination of Wild Cherry wood. With a sound that lands somewhere between the mellow tone of a Mahogany guitar and the bright sound of Maple, Wild Cherry has proven itself to be an excellent tone wood. Grown locally, Wild Cherry is also an ecologically friendly choice. S series guitars feature very smooth necks made from Silver Leaf Maple.*

* The S12+ features a Mahogany neck.

S Series - S6

S Series - S6

S Series - Grand

S Series - Grand

This compact guitar is great fun to play and produces a surprisingly big sound. Using computer modeling to optimize the internal bracing and soundhole design, the Grand represents an intriguing mix of old and new. The Grand is beautifully complemented with the addition of the optional LR Baggs Micro EQ system.

Specs: Solid Cedar Top; Wild Cherry Back and Sides; Silver Leaf Maple Neck; Rosewood Fingerboard and Bridge; Tusq nut and compensated saddle; Semi-Gloss Lacquer Finish.

S Series - S6+ Cedar CW QI

S Series - S6+ Cedar CW QI

An ideal choice for those who's playing takes them all the way up the neck. Highly recommended with the optional LR Baggs electronics. The Quantum I electronics in the S6+ Cedar CW uses the same under-saddle transducer as the Quantum II but without the QII's internal microphone.

Specs: Solid Cedar Top; Wild Cherry Back and Sides; Silver Leaf Maple Neck; Rosewood Fingerboard and Bridge; Tusq nut and compensated saddle; Semi-Gloss Lacquer Finish.

S Series - S6+ Folk

S Series - S6+ Folk

This concert size model is based on the dimensions of a classical guitar. The smaller body size enhances the instrument's sound in the mid-range. The Folk is an excellent choice for fingerstyle playing.

Specs: Solid Cedar Top; Wild Cherry Back and Sides; Silver Leaf Maple Neck; Rosewood Fingerboard and Bridge; Tusq nut and compensated saddle; Semi-Gloss Lacquer Finish.

S Series - S6+ Spruce

S Series - S6+ Spruce

The S6+ Spruce is an ideal choice for players who prefer the brighter (more high frequencies) sound of a Spruce top.

Specs: Solid Spruce Top; Wild Cherry Back and Sides; Silver Leaf Maple Neck; Rosewood Fingerboard and Bridge; Tusq nut and compensated saddle; Semi-Gloss Lacquer Finish.

S Series - S6+ Folk CW QI

S Series - S6+ Folk CW QI

The compact dimensions of the Folk CW are roughly the same as a typical classical guitar - but deeper. Very comfortable to play, the Folk produces a full sound that belies its small size. The Quantum I electronics in the Folk CW uses the same under-saddle transducer as the Quantum II but without the QII's internal microphone.

Specs: Solid Cedar Top; Wild Cherry Back and Sides; Silver Leaf Maple Neck; Rosewood Fingerboard and Bridge; Tusq nut and compensated saddle; Semi-Gloss Lacquer Finish.

The M Series

The M series guitars are made with Mahogany back and sides. Generally speaking, Mahogany back and sides produce a more mellow sound than other tone woods. The M series Seagull guitars feature a unique lamination of Mahogany on each side of a center layer of Wild Cherry. This results in a sound with slightly more highs than a typical Mahogany guitar.

M6 Gloss

M6 Gloss

The M6 Gloss features a high gloss lacquer finish. This finish provides excellent protection but at the same time is extremely light and elastic. This is a crucial point in both the sound of the guitar and its ability to age.

Specs: Solid Spruce Top; Mahogany Back and Sides; Mahogany Neck; Rosewood Fingerboard and Bridge; Tusq nut and compensated saddle; High-Gloss Lacquer Finish.

MJM6 (Mini Jumbo)

MJM6 (Mini Jumbo)

Beyond its curvaceous looks, the MJ offers a sound distinguished by a strong midrange response, making it suitable for performing and recording situations that call for a guitar that will cut through the mix. The lively midrange in this guitar will also appeal to Fingerstyle players.

Specs: Solid Spruce Top; Mahogany Back and Sides; Mahogany Neck; Rosewood Fingerboard and Bridge; Tusq nut and compensated saddle; High-Gloss Lacquer Finish.

The Artist Series

The new compound curve top concept was originally developed for the Seagull Artist Series guitars and it is in these models that the new design really proves itself. The Artist Series luthiers choose from the very best of a stockpile that includes over a hundred thousand, luthier-grade, solid cedar and spruce boards. In fact, all of the tone woods for the Artist Series are hand-selected to ensure that the very highest standards are met. The scalloped bracing is designed to such precise tolerances that it requires a CNC milling machine to carve the individual pieces to the exact specifications. The finished instruments speak with incredible clarity and character-and that's before thye open up! These guitars develop an even deeper character when 'played-in' and will no doubt become life long companions to those who choose them.

The new models will look familiar to Seagull enthusiasts, the straight-pull headstock remains-now adorned with a new 'Artist' logo-and the standard Seagull body shape has been altered only slightly with a narrower waist. All models are made with solid backs and laminated sides. The impact of solid sides on the sound of a guitar is virtually immeasurable. The impact on structural integrity is significant. The sides in the Artist Series guitars are made from three layers of matching hardwood, these sides provide excellent support for the top and back and are much more resistant to cracking which is especially important when considering the installation of on-board electronics.

Sound and feel are where the new Artist Series guitars really distinguish themselves. The clear bottom end response arrives with plenty of punch and provides a suitable foundation to the harmonically rich sound that sits on top.

All 2003 Artist Series Models are finished in genuine lacquer. The cedar top models feature a new hand-polished technique that produces a beautiful luster reminiscent of an antique violin finish. This hand-polish is our most responsive finish ever and is especially suitable for fingerstyle players. The spruce top models are also finished in lacquer but a slightly thicker coating is buffed to a high gloss. The less delicate nature of this finish makes these models more appropriate for more aggressive playing.
